A few quick checks before you sell

• Make sure the car is still yours to sell. If your insurance company has already paid out the car as a total loss, ownership may have moved to the insurer. Confirm with your adjuster before you sell. If you kept the car after the claim, you can sell it.
• Find the title. A title in your name makes everything faster. If it's lost or not in your name, call us anyway and read our guide on selling a junk car without a title.
• Know where the car is. Home, work, a body shop or a tow yard all work. If the car is at a storage yard, ask the yard what it needs to release the vehicle, since storage fees can keep adding up.
• Clear it out. Remove personal items, your toll transponder (SunPass) and your license plate. In Florida, the plate stays with you, not the car.
